Located along the southern border of Franklin County, Leverett is bordered by Montague, Wendell, Shutesbury, Amherst and Sunderland, and is broken into four small villages — Leverett Center, East Leverett, North Leverett and Moores Corner.
Students in Leverett attend Leverett Elementary School, Erving School Union #28, and Amherst-Pelham Regional School. Leverett also borders Amherst, Massachusetts, which is the home base for Five Colleges, Incorporated, a non-profit that promotes education at five local colleges — Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
For being a small town, Leverett is also home to a wide variety of places of worship. In addition to the Peace Pagoda, Leverett also has various Christian churches, a Quaker Friends Meetinghouse, Buddhist temples, and the Guru and Ashram Community.
